Kubota Model Numbers Explained

Kubota's range spans compact tractors, construction machinery and engines. Model codes follow logical patterns once you identify the product family.

Compact Excavators — K / U / KX / U-Series

Kubota has been a pioneer of the compact excavator and holds consistent naming conventions:

  • K-Series — earliest / smallest compact excavators (K008, K015)
  • KX-Series — conventional tail-swing compact excavators (KX016, KX019, KX027, KX037, KX057, KX080)
  • U-Series — ultra-tight-tail or zero-tail-swing excavators (U17, U25, U27, U35, U48, U55)

The number usually indicates operating weight in 100kg (KX080 ≈ 8t, U55 ≈ 5.5t).

Compact and Utility Tractors

Kubota tractors are grouped by size class:

  • B-Series — Sub-compact (B1181, B2261, B2301, B2420, B2650, B3150)
  • L-Series — Compact utility (L3901, L4060, L5040, L5240, L6060)
  • M-Series — Utility and mid-size (M4, M5, M6, M7, M8) — the number generally indicates HP × 10
  • MGX / M-GX — Premium mid-size with cab (MGX 110, 130, 150)
  • M7 — Large-frame utility (M7-132, M7-152, M7-172)

Common tractor suffixes:

  • HD — Heavy duty
  • Premium — High-spec trim
  • HST — Hydrostatic transmission
  • DT — Dual traction (4WD)

Skid Steers and Compact Track Loaders

  • SSV-Series — Skid steer loader (SSV65, SSV75)
  • SVL-Series — Compact track loader (SVL65, SVL75, SVL95)

Compact Wheel Loaders

  • R-Series — R065, R075, R085, R630, R430, R540 (legacy / newer ranges)

Utility Vehicles

  • RTV-Series — Rough-terrain vehicle (RTV-X900, RTV-X1100, RTV-XG850)

Engine Codes

Kubota engines power a vast number of other OEMs' equipment (Bobcat, Takeuchi, Yanmar-alternatives, Toro, and many more). Codes follow this pattern:

  • D — naturally-aspirated indirect-injection diesel (D905, D1105, D1305, D1503, D1703)
  • DI — direct-injection (D1703-DI)
  • V — V-configuration or larger inline (V1505, V2003, V2403, V2607, V3300, V3800)
  • F — small engines (F300, F600)

So a V2403-M-DI-T is a V2403-family engine (2.4L), modified, direct-injection, turbo.

Finding Your Serial Number

  • Excavators — data plate on the right side of the upper structure; stamping on the boom pivot frame
  • Tractors — plate on the dashboard, stamping on the transmission case, VIN on the right-hand chassis rail
  • Skid steers / CTLs — plate inside the cab, rear bulkhead
  • Engines — stamped on the block, usually on the rear right side

Parts Sourcing

Kubota OEM parts are widely stocked in the UK by Kubota UK. Quality aftermarket parts are available for most filters, seals and service kits — often at significant savings.
