JCB Parts Identification Guide

Identifying the correct JCB spare part takes a little detective work. This guide walks you through the steps we use daily to match parts to machines.

Step 1 — Find the Machine PIN

The 17-digit Product Identification Number (older machines: shorter serial) is the single most important detail. It tells us the exact production batch and therefore which parts catalogue applies.

  • Look on the data plate (usually on the chassis)
  • Or check your V5C / registration document
  • Or inside the cab door frame

Step 2 — Identify the System

JCB parts are grouped by machine system. Knowing the system narrows the catalogue dramatically:

  • Engine — DieselMAX, Perkins, Kohler, Isuzu, AGCO Power
  • Transmission / Drivetrain — gearbox, axles, prop shafts, driveline UJs
  • Hydraulics — pumps, valves, rams, hoses, filters
  • Undercarriage — tracks, rollers, sprockets, idlers (tracked machines)
  • Electrical — alternator, starter, sensors, wiring looms
  • Cab / Body — doors, glass, mirrors, wipers, seats

Step 3 — Understand JCB Part Number Formats

Most modern JCB OEM part numbers follow one of these patterns:

  • 7-digit — e.g. 320/04133 — the slash separates a family prefix from the item number
  • 10-digit — newer e-Commerce SKUs (introduced 2010+)
  • Supplier-prefixed — parts supplied by third parties may carry the OEM stamp (e.g. Perkins T412176, Bosch 0 445 xxx xxx)

When you have a JCB part number already, send us that — we will cross-reference both OEM and quality aftermarket equivalents.

Step 4 — Check Variants

The same model name can hide dozens of variants. For example, the JCB 3CX has been made since 1980 — a 3CX Sitemaster built in 1998 shares very few service parts with a 3CX Pro from 2023.

Tell us:

  • Year of manufacture (from V5 or data plate)
  • Hour reading (helps us spot service-interval parts)
  • Engine fitted — AA, AB, DieselMAX 4.4/4.8, etc.
  • Transmission — Syncroshuttle, Autoshift, Powershift

Step 5 — Provide Photos

A clear photo is worth a thousand part numbers. Useful photos include:

  • The data plate / VIN plate
  • The old worn/broken part (both sides)
  • Any numbers or markings stamped on the part
  • The area of the machine where it fits

Common JCB Part Types

  • Filters — oil, fuel, air, hydraulic, cab air conditioning
  • Seals and O-rings — hydraulic rams, pumps, gearboxes
  • Bushes and pins — loader and backhoe pivot points (a common wear item)
  • Glass — windscreen, doors, quarterlights (note: part numbers differ by cab variant)
  • Drivetrain — prop-shafts, UJs, diff heads (3CX/4CX particularly)
