Bobcat Model Numbers Explained

Bobcat — the original skid-steer brand — has expanded into compact excavators, compact track loaders, telehandlers and attachments. Its model-naming is clear once you know the prefix codes.

Skid Steer Loaders — S-Series

S = Skid steer. The number is rated operating capacity (lifting capacity) in pounds:

  • S70 — 700 lb capacity — the smallest skid steer
  • S450 / S510 / S530 / S550 / S570 / S590 — Radius-lift path
  • S595 / S630 / S650 / S740 / S750 / S770 / S850 — Larger / heavier machines
  • S64 / S66 / S76 / S86 — Current R-Series nomenclature

Compact Track Loaders — T-Series

T = Track loader (compact). The number is again operating capacity in pounds:

  • T450 / T550 / T590 / T595 / T630 / T650 / T740 / T770 / T870
  • T64 / T66 / T76 / T86 — R-Series names

Compact Excavators — E-Series

E = Excavator. The number is operating weight in 100kg:

  • E10 / E14 / E16 / E17 / E19 — 1–1.9t ultra-compact
  • E20 / E25 / E26 / E27 / E32 / E34 / E35 — 2–3.5t compact
  • E42 / E45 / E50 / E55 — 4.2–5.5t compact
  • E60 / E85 / E88 — 6–8.8t midi

Common suffixes:

  • Z — Zero tail swing
  • R2 / R-Series — Latest generation

Compact Wheel Loaders — L-Series

L = Loader (wheeled compact):

  • L23 / L28 — Small articulated
  • L65 / L85 — Larger compact wheel loaders

Telehandlers — V-Series / T-Series

  • V417 / V519 / V723 / V923 — Versa-Handler range (telehandlers with 4-wheel-drive and rotating head attachments)
  • TL26.60 / TL30.60 / TL30.70 / TL34.65 / TL35.70 / TL38.70 — European-market telehandlers (lift tonnes . reach metres)

Engines

Bobcat uses two main engine suppliers:

  • Kubota — most compact machines (V2403, V2607, V3300, V3800)
  • Doosan — larger machines (DX-Series shared parent)

Common Part Numbers

  • Filters and service parts are often cross-referenced with Kubota and Doosan OEM numbers
  • Bobcat OEM numbers typically follow 7nnnnnnn or nnnn-nnnnn
  • Aftermarket filter cross-references are excellent — Donaldson, Mann and Fleetguard all publish Bobcat data

Finding Your Serial Number

  • Skid steers / CTLs — plate on the rear bulkhead (outside), and inside the cab on the rear support
  • Compact excavators — right side of the upper structure, under the handrail
  • Telehandlers — inside the cab, right-hand pillar
